This past week we had something to take our mind off the flood problems. We had a terrible wind storm—don’t know if it was micro-bursts or just wild wind, but this is what it left behind at John’s house:
John and Barbara were lucky this tree didn’t land on their roof or as John said, in their bed, as it went down between their house and the garage next door. Two other trees were damaged as well. This was all over town as we saw other trees ripped off, or tipped over, or branches strewn all over the grass. A tree removal worker said they had been working since 3am. It was reminiscent of the storm that took ten trees down in Joe’s yard a couple of years ago.
This week the Missouri is still high enough that Council Bluffs still considers itself in danger so the missionaries were asked again to come fill sandbags. Just as I got there to take pictures of our “Mormon Helping Hands” crowd, an Iowa State legislator stopped by to thank them for their help.
I remember filling sandbags with my girls when they were young and the mayor decided to turn 13th south into a river because of all the water.
ReplyDeleteJane and Fred - I am glad you are safe from flooding and winds...It is so gorgeous here in Midway - so green - nice and cool in the evenings. I have my windows open upstairs and am getting the nice mountain breeze. Keep up the good work and take time to have a little fun on the side! (when you are not filling sandbags, that is)
